WP2 is an energy production business which has chosen to adopt proprietary Advanced Thermal Treatment (ATT) processes to create producer gas by using prepared non-recyclable waste as a fuel. This is commonly referred to as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).

Advanced Thermal Treatment processes yield energy in convenient forms allowing the maximum calorific value of the converted waste to be used. The energy released during the treatment process is synthetic gas (syngas) which, in some situations, can be supplied to local industrial or commercial users directly as an energy source. WP2 intend primarily to use the syngas to generate electricity which will be made available for domestic and commercial use by being fed into the local grid for distribution.

In addition, the gas production process generates large quantities of low grade heat which can also be used locally by either commercial or domestic consumers. Distributed short distances in insulated underground pipes, the heat can be used for space and water heating through heat exchangers. Typical uses would include nearby offices, factories and housing developments.
The waste streams to fuel the plant have been identified as:

• Paper Waste.
• Demolition Waste
• Mixed paper, timber and plastic waste
